My Uncles
George W. Clein's early postings in the USA. & Germany:
George’s Vietnam Uniform:
Unfortunately, I have lost the 1 picture I had of him in this uniform-or rather the one he gave me. That I leaned out to friends doing a MASH play in High School, and the stolid the patches, and cut up the uniform! Ya, for Christ's Sake! Yeah, I was pissed, and screwed with again, High School not the finest days, so this is a copy. I then bought a patch for $600.00 and later figured out, ya it was made in Vietnam, but they were still making them there! So then, in the picture (I lost) he was guarding a base’s “Tower” with sandbags all over, and him manning an M-60 Belt Fed-Machine Gun, in the ERDL Camoflaged uniform, wearing one of those” Tourist Hats” kind of like Australian military hats with the sides rolled up and tied on top, with a little “Vietnam” Red Rocker on side, funny and serious at the same time.
George’s Assignment to Germany:
Joe Clein, USAF, 1970 Master Sergeant? Master Missle Man Uniform:
Jerry’s Khaki ‘Master Chief’ Uniform:
What do they call these again, Khaki-Tan, Navy Summer, Tropical uniform? Possibly from when he was stationed on the East Coast, and for a while they lived in Alabama, moved around down soutn, Japan for several years, ended up in Washington State, where my Mom demanded, and did everthing she could to get them to move around here in retiremant! and they did, and they werere colose, I have no idea in Hell how she was able to do that I’ll never know, they were all very different from each other and its been tough to keep all that going, But it was a great way to grow up (All were from my Moms Side) but so it goes, there were the Norwegians I found too, My Dads Side, all a great lot. Jerry was a Master Chief Petty Officer, top Naval NCO of the times, he was a good Uncle, helped me and talked to me, on his own several times, just to see how I was doing, and got my cars going again. He was a Military Man, and everyone smoked and drank like there was no tomorrow back then in the 70s, and that took its toll on my uncle's in general, hard lives, the providers, and were driven, and well, I can go on and on, of course.
Aircraft / Fabricator M.CPO., Jerry Weltner, RVN:
His rank was as far as it went at the time I think, and I got a set of his uniforms, one from him and one fron is son, and it idcats a Metal Man, fixer of aircraft, I would assume, doesnt really fit him as much as I remember, all were slight smaller frame guys then, but he was a use his head kind of guy, 5’7 or something 150 pounds, he was maried and had two sons already, what made him go there, then? I discovered i had my uncle's uniform, there had been a military rations card with it, and has his name in it, but it’s MAC-V, from 23rd August 1972 to 25th May (33?) FAIRCONRON ONE… with lots of numbers and whatnot, commanders name. The green uniform, generally equated with Marines, or Navai Air, is interesting in itself, while typical stateside, in Vietnam by 1972, no one wanted to be the last on there, and a duffel bag is heavy, I do know he got recognised for dis-arming a 122 rocket, I was told, had gone in a building or something, barracks or hospital-not sure, but he went in and did it.
